With Tappan Zee taking the Class A crown last season, Section 1 has now won 34 NYSPHSAA State championships since 1978, more than any other section in N.Y. Mount Vernon leads the way with 12 State crowns along with 5 Federation titles, their latest being in 2022 with an undefeated season. They are followed by Peekskill with 5 State titles, Alexander Hamilton with 4, and Poughkeepsie and Yonkers with 3 apiece. Yonkers' 3 State titles were won in 1927, 1930 and 1932, before the tournament was canceled by State officials. The tournament remained dormant for 45 years before being reinstated.
