THE YEAR IN REVIEW . . .
With the 2025-26 season now over, there were a lot of memorable moments. Let’s take a look at some of them.
- Three teams, Albany CBA, Westhill, and Cooperstown, finished with unbeaten records. The last time three teams went undefeated in a full season was 1991.
- Marcellus repeated as the NYSPHSAA Class B champion.
- Section 3 won three of the six NYSPHSAA titles while Section 2 once again showed their might, sending 5 of their 6 representatives to the final four.
- Westhill won their seventh NYSPHSAA crown while Penfield and Bolton won their first.
- Ron Naclerio of Cardozo became the all-time winningest coach in NY history, eclipsing the mark set by Jack Curran of Archbishop Molloy.
- Junior Ian VanWagner of Potsdam scored his 3,000th career point, putting him in second place on the all-time list behind Joe Girard III.
- Jimmy Kelly, from Goshen, set a Section 9 record for most points in game with 65.
- New York’s #1 team, Archbishop Stepinac, won an unprecedented 4th consecutive CHSAA title and their 3rd straight PSAL/CHSAA championship.
- The Eagle Academy’s ruled Class AAAA in the PSAL as Eagle-Bronx defeated Eagle-Brooklyn 59-57 in OT for the title while Eagle-Queens finished with an 18-5 record.
- In the NYSAIS, Stony Brook won their first championship in Class B while Fieldston took their second Class C title in the past three years.
- Mekeel Christian and Albany Academy moved from Section 2 to the NEPSAC with some interesting results. Mekeel (16-3, 26-4) won the Power 5 AA title while Albany Academy finished 12-14 as an independent.
